Sri Padmanabha’s Wealth – To Italy via Vienna

via R Sajan published on September 18, 2011

The media reported on Sep 7 that the expert panel headed by the National Museums vice chancellor, Mr C.V. Ananda Bose has decided to rope in an expert agency to conduct a scientific assessment of the wealth discovered in the Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple.  Within a week, the NMI has already come to an agreement with a Viennese University of Arts to allow them to verify and value the treasure in the Temple. The rocket speed of procedures is curious.  Even God himself might not have been capable of such bureaucratic momentum.

I have already warned in these columns that the Italy angle will prevail in the matter of any temple treasure or valuable idol in India, as it has been doing for the past many decades.  The Vienna thing, so expeditiously arranged, is pointer to the treasure’s moving to Italy via Vienna, once the media attention has died down. Non-Hindu foreigners’ handling the divine treasure does not look okay and would be desecration. The Temple funds might be used to pay the assessors.

C.V.Ananda Bose, born 1951, is due to retire soon. He has already proclaimed that verifying the treasure would take at least an year [indicating a Supreme Court extension of his tenure]. As is usual with our Commissions, the Ananda Bose Committee would also be granted several extensions.

I would not be surprised if our Hindu folk finally feel after a couple of years, that it would have been better to let the Kerala government look after the treasure after all. However, by that time, it might all be scattered all over Europe and where else not, being assessed, verified, valued and what else not!
