Youth attempts suicide, fresh violence injures 20 in JammuÂ

Jammu, July 29: A youth today allegedly attempted suicide over Amarnath land transfer row triggering a fresh wave of violence in which over 20 persons were injured in Jammu where protestors threw petrol bombs, burnt tyres and clashed with police.
Kamaljeet Singh of Sowankha Mode, stated to be an activist of Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti, took phenayol from a bottle and collapsed on the floor in Samba town. He was taken to a hospital where doctors washed out the liquid from his stomach.
He allegedly attempted the suicide at the venue of a relay hunger strike in Samba town in protest against Jammu and Kashmir government’s decision to take back the land from the Amarnath Shrine Board.
As the news of the youth’s attempted suicide spread in city, over 2,000 people, inclduing top leadership of BJP, VHP, Bajrang Dal, Panun Kashmir, Shiv Sena and Sangrash Samiti assembled before the hospital and raised slogans against Governor N N Vohra.
Protesters burnt tyres and effigies of the Governor and pelted stones on power development department house and police control room building.
They also threw 3 to 4 petrol bombs at the bulding, and clashed with police who fired dozens of teargas shells and resorted to heavy cane charge.
Today’s alleged suicide bid by the youth came four days after another young man Kuldeep Kumar, an activist of the Sangharsh Samiti, took his life by consuming poison, an incident that fuelled violent protests against Amarnath land transfer row.Â
