SC seeks report on slaughter houses
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court directed Kerala and Karnataka governments to file an affidavit within November 2, stating the steps taken to implement their suggestions to improve the condition of slaughterhouses in these states.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal and Justice C K Thakker also directed the two states to conduct a detailed examination of the slaughterhouses and file a report on state of affairs of abattoirs within three months.
The apex court directed both governments of the states to fully cooperate in the examination of the slaughterhouses.
It also directed its petitioner, People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), to file its response within a month thereafter.
Illegal cow slaughtering and cattle transportation was the root cause for the recent communal riots in Mangalore.
