PMO
New DelhiDear Prime Minister : 21 December 2008
THE CITIZENS OF THE REPUBLIC AND OTHER ADMIRERS AND SYMPATHISERS OF INDIA DEMAND THE IMMEDIATE DISMISSAL OF A.R. ANTULAY FROM THE UNION CABINET
We, the undersigned persons, who are either citizens of India or people committed to the country in terms of sympathy, admiration and ties, are writing this letter to you in anguish, pain, outrage and despair.
The actions of your Cabinet Minister A.R. Antulay (who has been assigned the portfolio of Minority Affairs) are unprecedented in Indian history. We do not need to go over the sad details of this person’s perfidy and egregiousness. All of it is in the public domain and indeed known to you and your office in full detail.
What we are doing is emphasizing the issues involved and underlying the need for immediate remedial action on your part.
A) THE ISSUES
1. Antulay has made statements and adopted postures that have made this country a laughing stock in the international community, and given Pakistan and the global Islamic terror movement the perfect handle to divert attention from their culpability in the horrendous events in Mumbai last month.
2. He has played into the hands of the home-grown Islamic terrorists who would stop at nothing to tear this country apart in the name of a hate-filled ideology.
3. He has made a mockery of the concept of an India united on the basis of simple ties of humanity and fraternity.
4. He has grievously insulted the memories of the brave soldiers and security personnel who sacrificed their lives so gloriously in order to defend the Republic and its citizens.
B. THE IMPLICATIONS
The implications are clear as daylight. Only a perverted and blind person will refuse to see what this Minister in your Cabinet has done.
1. He has violated his oath of loyalty to the Constitution and to the country.
2. He has given up every claim and right (that he could possibly have had) to hold a position of trust and power in our country’s governing apparatus.
C. REMEDIAL ACTION ON YOUR PART
1. Immediately accept the resignation reportedly tendered to you by Antulay and to forward it to the President of the Republic for necessary administrative action.
2. Ensure that this person is not given any future Constitutional or official position in your government or your party, though the latter may prove difficult for you under the peculiar conditions that prevail currently.
Mr. Prime Minister : at certain moments in our lives, we have to rise above narrow sectarian, personal, party and group considerations. India is at such a juncture.
Cromwell’s ringing declaration a few centuries back is very apt : addressing the Rump Parliament, the English Republican said :
“You have sat too long here for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of God, goâ€.
In May 1940, Leopold Amery denounced Neville Chamberlain in the same words, following the British disasters in the war.
Antulay does not deserve such grand oratory ; however, you are aware of the significance of these words.
Just kick the man out.
Sincerely,
