Kozhikode July 5: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Kerala unit has decided to promote organic farming in the State.

A resolution adopted at the two-day State conference of the RSS held at Kozhikode last weekend, said that the organisation planned to rope in students, youths and different communities with the slogan, ‘Swacch Kerala-Haritha Kerala-Sundara Kerala’.

The resolution said Kerala depended heavily on other States for vegetables and fruits. It had almost become a consumerist State. The new generation did not want to take up agrarian work. Pesticides and insecticides were being used in agricultural activities. Both the soil and waterbodies had been contaminated. “The time has come for people to return to organic farming practices,” it added.

The resolution said lessons on nature conservation and environment awareness should be included in school syllabus. Students should be taught about Vrikshayurveda, Nakshatravanam and Nakshatravriksham. Laws on conservation of paddy and watershed management should be strictly implemented, it added.

The RSS conclave also decided to embark on an expansion drive with some restructuring at the State level. Its existing revenue districts would be converted into 37 Sangh districts. The eight zones would be increased to 11, the leaders said.

RSS Kerala Pranth Karyavah  P. Gopalankutty said the organisation had been able to increase its influence among the marginalised and oppressed sections of society.

RSS Pracharak M Ganeshan to take new responsibility in Kerala BJP. Earlier he was serving as Pranth Prachar Pramukh of Kerala.
