THE Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt is organising the 75th Avatar Mahotsav of His Holiness Shankaracharya Swami Jayendra Saraswati in every state of India. The ninth of such mahotsav was held in Thiruvananthapuram on January 18.

Speaking on the occasion, Swamiji lauded the RSS for giving dignity, respect and direction to the Hindus during its 85 years of existence. RSS parivar organisations like Ekal Vidyalaya, Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram and Vidya Niketan are rendering yeomen’s service in the education, healthcare and self-sufficiency areas for Vanvasis and downtrodden. He said the Kanchi Mutt has teamed up with RSS to open CBSE-affiliated schools, which also teach Vedas in several parts of Karnataka and the Tamil Nadu. Around 1200 Vanvasi children from the North-East are studying in these schools being run jointly. The RSS is doing niswartha seva for the protection, preservation and propagation of Sanatan Dharma.

“Kerala is the blessed land of Adi Sankara, Sree Narayana Guru and temples like Sabarimala and Guruvayur. All 64 art forms, Vedas and dharmas thrive in Kerala. Sree Narayana Guru was a pillar of Sanatan Dharma who checked conversion to Islam and Christianity. In 1981, the Meenakshipuram conversions were reversed by taking Ayyappa idols to Harijan bustis of Tamil Nadu. Now lakhs of people from Tamil Nadu visit Sabarimala. Also a silent “return-back-to-Hinduism” campaign is going on in Tamil Nadu,” he concluded.

At the mahotsav, medical equipments aid to several physically handicapped persons were distributed. Malayalam poet Sugathakumari, Kathakali maestro Kalamandalam Ramankutty Nair, Mitraniketan Viswanathan and Sanskrit scholar KVS Sastri were honoured. P Parameswaran, BJP leader O Rajagopal and princess of Travancore royal family Aswathi Thirunal were the guests of honour.

Addressing the huge gathering, Padma Shri P Parameswaran said Kerala is blessed by Swamiji’s visit. “Just like in ‘Surya Grahan’, where the moon covers the sun temporarily, the attacks on Swamiji and Hindutva are temporary. Soon the moon will move away and Swami and Sanatan Dharma will shine and thrive brightly. The deeksha given to avarna pujaris at Advaita Ashram, Aluva, by Swamiji in early 90s was the golden moment in Hindu unity in Kerala after the temple entry proclamation,” he said.

Shri O Rajagopal said while Adi Sankara took the message of Sanatan Dharma to every nook and corner of India, Swamiji is taking the message of Adi Sankara to the common man-to Harijan bustis, to fishing beaches, etc.

The princess Aswathi Thirunal said like Prahalada, her prayers to Lord Padmanabha is for more bhakti. “My prayers are also for more life to Swamiji to guide humanity.”

Violin maestro L Vaidyanathan and his son Ambi performed a memorable feast to the ears.
