The war of words between the RSS and Congress leader Digvijaya Singh dipped to a new low on Thursday in the wake of an old photograph of Singh sharing the dais with RSS leaders at a Hindu platform coming into public domain.

“This recent expose of the photograph is the reaffirmation of the age-old communal politics that Congress has been indulging in right from the beginning,” RSS leader Ram Madhav said.

“They have no qualms in going to a particular platform for the sake of electoral dividends and in the same breath they have no sense of shame in going and attacking them publicly for the sake of some other groups’ votes.”

Madhav said, “This is a kind of minority politics, communal politics, that they have been indulging right from the beginning. I don’t see anything more than that in this so called controversial photograph… I don’t believe that he has any faith in any particular ideology any time. He only faith is in his communal votebank politics.”

Digvijaya Singh was quick to retort: “This virat Hindu sammelan was called by Kanchi seer Sankaracharyaji and I had gone to that conference with the permission of Congress leadership.

Singh has in the past accused social activist Anna Hazare of being an RSS prop, a charge “bolstered” by a photograph of Hazare with former Jana Sangh leader Nanaji Deshmukh surfacing recently. Hazare’s Team has, however, constantly denied any such association, seeing this as a Congress ploy to defame the movement.

Singh sought to know whether the RSS had ever written a book praising him like it had done in the case of social activist Anna Hazare.

“A book on Hazare has been published under an RSS publication. What will you say about it? Has RSS ever written a book praising Digvijaya Singh?” he asked.
