Roman Matha Ki Jai! – Shame on the nation!

via B.R.HARAN published on December 13, 2006

It was painful to note that the widows of the martyrs of the “2001 Parliament attack” have returned the Gallantry Medals of Honour. Ever since the Supreme Court gave the final verdict of death penalty to the dreaded terrorist Mohammed Afzal Guru, the impotent UPA government has been dilly dallying on this issue of ‘hanging’, without respecting the sentiments of more than 90% of the people of India and particularly the feelings of the families of the martyrs. The Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Gulam Nabi Azad recommended clemency for Afzal and the former CM Farooq Abdullah black mailed that the nation would go up in flames & threatened that the Judges, who gave the verdict would be murdered. Self styled five star activists like Arundhathi Roy & Medha Patkar raised their voice for Afzal’s clemency along with several NGOs, HROs and AIMPLB Mullas. Rajdeep, Burka, Sgarika, Arnab, et al, debated from the bottom of their heart for his clemency.

It was quite obvious, from the beginning that, the UPA government was playing vote bank politics and in the process, pressurised the President Dr. Kalam to do unprecedented things like giving personal hearing for a terrorist’s family, which forced the widows of the martyrs to issue a deadline (December 12) to the government to make its decision. The government chose to simply ignore the wounded feelings of the martyrs’ families and the leaders of UPA including its chair person Signora Sonia, had the audacity to pay floral tribute to the departed Martyrs for their 5 th death anniversary to day. The government didn’t even bother to meet the widows and the Minister of state for Home, went on to make a statement in the Parliament that they have insulted the Constitution, Parliament & the office of the President. This is an insensitive act of adding insult to injury, which made the widows to return the medals.

May I suggest the government to award those medals, one each to Farooq Abdullah, Gulam Nabi Azad, Mehabooba Mufti, Arundathi Roy, Medha Patkar, NHRC and AIMPLB? The balance medals may be shared between Manmohan & Sonia. Otherwise, they can auction those medals during question hour (speaker will be too good for the job of auctioneer) and with the money made, they can erect a statue for Mohammed Afzal Guru and place it in front of the parliament, like EVR’s statue in front of Srirangam Temple, and request Karunanidhi or Achuthanandan to unveil it in the august presence of Abdul Madhani. If age doesn’t permit them to travel, Mian Musharaf can open the statue and that would be an ideal time for Manmohan to shake hands again with him for yet another round of terror attacks. Roman Matha ki Jai!
