NEW DELHI :The Vishwa Hindu Parishad today asked Hindu devotees  and other like-minded people across the country to file police complaints against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for allegedly hurting the sentiments of Hindus by his recent statement on Ram Setu.

The call was given by VHP’s international general secretary Pravin Togadia, who said its activists and others would start filing FIRs against Karunanidhi from September 24.

Togadia, told reporters that Karunanidhi’s remark on Lord Ram had severely hurt Hindu sentiments. “Since Indian Constitution does not allow anyone to hurt the sentiment of the masses, Karunanidhi could be booked under section 296 of the IPC,” he said.

He said at least 1,000 FIRs were ready to be filed in different police stations in the country on Monday.

Demanding immediate scrapping of Sethusamudram project, the VHP leader said the outfit would organise a 15-day-long ‘Padayatra’ across the country from Sepetember 27. The activists would perform ‘puja’ of Lord Ram, Ram Setu and Jyotirlingam of Rameswaram during the ‘Padayatra’, he added.

Togadia said that the project would lead to starvation of four lakh fishermen who earn their livilihood by fishing in the Arabian Sea.

He said that since water in the Arabian Sea was steady unlike in the Bay of Bengal, the fishermen get maximum catch there. The water in the sea could become stormy due to the project, he added.
