Protests in Karnataka over ‘Dhundi’: Author arrested for denigration of Lord Ganesha

published on August 29, 2013

Amid widespread protests in Karnataka over the controversial book ‘Dhundi’ that allegedly projects Lord Ganesha in dismal light, the author Yogesh has been arrested. The arrest has been made over charges of hurting the sentiments of the Hindu community.
“Yes, the Kalasipalya police have arrested Yogesh Master who has authored the controversial novel,” DCP (West) Dr D C Rajappa said.

Critics of the book and members of Hindu organizations have slammed the book “Dhundi; The story of a forester becoming Ganapathi” for containing “derogatory references” and “portraying the relationship of Shiva-Parvati-Ganesh in a highly objectionable manner.”
The arrest followed a complaint lodged against the author seeking action against him for hurting the sentiments of the Hindu community.

Several Hindu organizations and religious leaders had sought withdrawal of the book. They had warned of widespread protests against the author if the book, released on August 21, was sold. They have also sought an unconditional apology from Yogesh.
