THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The BJP will enforce laws such as POTA and incarcerate people such as Abdul Nassar Madhani, if it came to power, senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu said here on Saturday.

Inaugurating a dharna organised by the BJP district committee in protest against the appeasement of minorities by the Central and State Governments, Naidu said that the BJP would declare death sentence to Mohammed Afsal, who was convicted in the Parliament attack case.

Laws such as the POTA will be enforced within 100 days of coming to power, Naidu said. The BJP will also protect the ‘Ram Sethu’ and provide land for the Amarnath shrine, he said.

Naidu said that the Congress and the CPM were the two sides of a coin. Both the LDF and the UDF are equally responsible for the corruption in the SNC-Lavalin deal, but CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan alone was victimised because the Left had pulled out its support to the Congress-led UPA Government in the Centre, he said.  BJP state president P.K. Krishnadas, general secretary M.T.Ramesh and former state president Adv P.S. Sreedharan Pillai were present.

Naidu scoffs at Cong bid to claim credit Senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday ridiculed the attempts of the Congress to hog credit for A.R. Rahman’s Academy Award-winning performance and industrialist Vijay Mallya’s success in getting back Gandhiji’s belongings.

“In a way, the Congress can claim credit for (the success of) `Slumdog Millionaire’ because they preserved poverty in India, and somebody made a film on it,’’ Naidu told reporters here said.

He said that the Mallya himself had refuted Union Culture Minister Ambika Soni’s claim that his services were used to retrieve the belongings of Mahtama Gandhi.
