‘Postal Secularism’

“The first millennium saw the cross planted in soil of Europe, the second in America and Africa. May the third Christian Millennium witness a great harvest of faith on this vast and vital continent.”  – These were the statements made by Pope John Paul II during his last vist to India.

Indian postal department will release a special stamp to commemorate the 25th anniversary of this Pope’s visit to Bharath. This move also coincides with his sainthood beatifying ceremony which was held in Rome. He too was fast tracked to Sainthood, amidst widespread opposition from ‘Sexual abuse Victims group’ . They accuse John Paul for having turned a blind eye to sex abuse by his clergyman. 

Kerala Christian Pressure group in Delhi are said to be behind this push as well who earlier suceeded in issuing a coin in the name of some less known Alphonsa. This special day issue is in association with the archdiocese of Thrissur.Chief Post Master General (Kerala circle) Shobha Koshy will release the stamp by presenting the first cover to Reverend Andrews Thazhath, archbishop of Thrissur.
