New Delhi, Feb 27:
BJP today warned of countrywide protest if Delhi University failed to
remove the “atrocious” remarks against Lord Ram in its history text
books.
“The remarks against Lord Ram in books taught in Delhi
University are atrocious and obnoxious. They should be scrapped or else
we will resort to nationwide protests on the issue,” party spokesperson
V K Malhotra said at a press conference here.
Several members of ABVP, student organisation of the BJP, were
arrested by police yesterday for their violent protest at the
university campus on the issue.
“The stories by Ramanujan taught in the history subject in the
university is compiled by none other than the daughter of Prime
Minister Manmohan Singh, Dr Upendra Singh. She should disassociate
herself from such a compilation,” the saffron party demanded.
The party would call on Vice-President Hamid Ansari, who is also
the Chancellor of the central university, to press their demand, he
said.
BJP is also planning to meet President Pratibha Patil on the issue, Malhotra added.
On being asked if the party was changing stands by opposing the
textbook after supporting Taslima Nasreen on her controversial
writings, he said, “that was a case of book, here it is a text which is
taught to children.”
