The Human Resource Development Ministry has approved the inclusion of books by Thiruvalluvar to all central universities. It has also been decided to have the birth anniversary of the Tamil sage poet and philosopher celebrated in schools all over India through introduction of his life and works. The works of Subrahmanian Bharathiyar will also be introduced in north India’s schools.

Conveying this to Union Minister of State for Heavy Industry Pon Radhakrishnan and several Tamil groups, HRD Minister Smriti Irani said that “through essay and poetry competitions to be organised nationally, Thiruvalluvar’s works will be introduced in schools all over India.”

The groups led by Radhakrishnan felicitated Irani and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha member Tarun Vijay for successfully taking up the cause of introducing Thiruvalluvar’s life and works in north India’s schools.

Similarly, all other national languages will be properly honoured and the rich heritage of India’s languages will be made known to students, said official sources.
