Noted Malayalam Lyricist Gireesh Puthanchery passed away

Kozhikode, Feb 10 : Noted Malayalam film lyricist and Screen Writer Girish Puthenchery (49), who suffered a brain haemorrhage Saturday, died at a private hospital here on Wednesday.

Born in Ulliyeri in Kozhikode, Girish started writing lyrics when he was a student in Govt. Arts and Science College. Besides writing lyrics for several hit songs, Girish had also scripted films like “Melepparambil Aanveedu”,”Vadakkunnathan” and “Pallavoor Devanarayanan”.He was scripting a film by the name of ‘Raman Police’ in which Mohanlal was expected to play the lead role. Beginning his career in the 1990 film ” Enquiry”, Girish went on to write lyrics for more than 1,700 songs in over 300 Malayalam films.
