Non Bailable charges on Rajnath Singh, Nation wide protest today

via Press Release published on April 8, 2007

New Delhi:The Bharatiya Janata party has decided to organise protest demonstration in all the state capitals on 9th April (Monday), demanding immediate withdrawal of 2nd FIR against its president Shri Rajnath Singh.

Party President Shri Rajnath Singh will court arrest in Lucknow tomorrow as FIR has registered against him in the wake of CD controversy in Uttar Pradesh. Shri L.K. Advani, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, Smt. Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Yashwant Sinha and other leaders will be present on the occasion in Lucknow. This is a protest against the 2nd FIR filed against the Party President by State Election Office under the influence of local administration.

This has happened despite party’s explanation to the Chief Election Commissioner that the controversial CD was not a part of official campaign material and had been withdrawn. 2nd FIR against the Party President is a malicious design of Samajwadi Party and other psuedo secularist parties.

The first FIR, filed on April 5 at Lucknow’s Hazratganj police station, does not name anyone. The police named Singh in the second FIR lodged the next day and slapped various sections of IPC and Representation of People Act — some of which are non-bailable and entail three years jail term

It is worthwhile to note that the same action was not initiated against Shri Lalu Prasad Yadav who used a Godhra CD in Bihar Election for divisive politics. Recently notices have been issued to Shri Sharad Pawar for violation of code of conduct by declaring sugar package and to Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav for castist appeal. But no FIR is registered against them. Earlier no FIR was registered against either Sonia Gandhi for using State Aircraft during Chhattisgarh Assembly Election, or Lalu Prasad Yadav for distributing cash during Bihar Assembly campaign.

Call of action against BJP by other parties is a worst type of appeasement politics.
