Wife of the Keralite Muslim facing “an eye for an eye” punishment in Saudi Arabia has left for new Delhi along with her two children and an uncle to plead for the mercy of the Saudi King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, who is the Chief Guest at the Republic Day celebrations.

With the support of the politicians from Kerala including the Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Mr E Ahmed, the family of Naushad had undertaken this mercy mission. The state government reported to have made arrangements for their stay in New Delhi.

A Sharia court in Saudi Arabia had ordered that one of his eyes be gouged out for damaging the eye of an Arab in an alleged quarrel about three years ago. Since then he is lodged in a Jail there.

In a striking contrast, the government and the politicians here failed to act timely to save the life of Maniappan, a BRO driver, who was kidnapped and brutally murdered by the Talibans in Afghanistan few months ago.
