Nationalist Muslims questions Ulema’s silence on Afzal issue
Bhopal:Supporting the death sentence awarded to Mohammed Afzal Guru for his role in the 2001 Parliament attack, a Muslim organisation on Thursday asked ulemas to issue a fatwa favouring capital punishment for him.
Ulemas have been issuing fatwas on various issues from time to time and now they should issue a fatwa backing the death sentence for Guru despite the mercy plea for him, Nationalist Muslim Movement convenor Mohammad Afzal told reporters in Bhopal.
Since silence on the part of ulemas on the death sentence has raised questions, they should make their stand clear on the issue, he said.
