 NHRC to probe CPM-RSS clashes in Thalassery

Members of the Natonal Human Rights Commission have reached Thalassery to look into the complaint filed by BJP State vice president V Muraleedharan on the CPI(M) sponsored atrocities there.

The BJP leader has complained to the commission that the CPI(M) men along with the support of the police has indulged in killings and biased attack on the RSS and the BJP leaders. This clashes has led to the loss of lives of five RSS, BJP men. Several prominent RSS workers and leaders were also injured and maimed for life including the RSS local leader MP Sumesh who lost his left palm in the attack.

The RSS leader is also bed ridden for the past two months owing to the deep injuries inflicted upon him by the CPI(M) killer squad.

The commission investigating officers BS Rao and Kurilos reached the district capital Kannur and had taken reports from the district collector Ishitha Ray and the District Suprendiendent of Police, S Sreejith on the nature of the violence and on the points made in the complaint.

The officers would visit the houses of the people killed in the attack and also meet the injured. The officers are also looking into the complaint filed by the BJP that the CPI(M) leaders including its State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan had indulged in provocative speeches and that this had resulted in the attack of the CPI(M) killer squad on the RSS men.

The incidents related to the recent clashes has started when on the Sivarathri day a group of CPI(M) men attacked the RSS Thalassery Taluk leader MP Sumesh in the heart of Thalassery town with leathal weapons. Sumesh was critically injured but he survived and lost his left palm. The CPI(M) which is ruling the State continued the killing spree resulting in five murders including the 65-yr-old former Janasangh worker KV Surendran who was not in active politics for the past ten years owing to a renal failure and was convulsing at home.

There are complaints that the CPI(M) workers had even molested his wife after they barged into their house breaking the door open. Local RSS workers had told mediapersons that the 60-year-old woman was molested by the CPI(M) men. Surendran who was in the bed for the past some years was killed by severing his head.The NHRC investigating officers are looking into this complaint.

Another RSS worker Sathyan was kidnapped by the CPI(M) men where he was working as a mason and his body was found after several hours with his head severed. There are complaints that the CPI(M) men outshone the Taliban in the cruelity angle. The same was the case of Mahesh and that of Suresh Babu who were not active RSS workers.

There were also complaints that the police has not acted on time and was waiting for the message from the CPI(M) leaders as the State Home Minister was the CPI(M) leader from Thalassery and the commission it was learnt would be deeply probing as to whether the State Home Minister had acted in a biased manner in the Thalassery violence.
