Nation pay homage to martyrs of Parliament attack
NEW DELHI: Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi today paid homage to the security personnel killed in the attack on Parliament five years ago.
The leaders offered floral tributes to the portraits of the martyrs at Parliament House.
Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, opposition leader L K Advani, Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman K Rehman Khan, BJP leaders M M Joshi, Jaswant Singh, CPI-M leaders Basudeb Acharia and Brinda Karat, TDP leader Yerran Naidu were among others who offered their tributes to the martyrs.
Watch and Ward Staff of Parliament also offered their floral tributes remembering their late colleagues.
Sardar Singh, father of Om Prakash, the Head Constable of Delhi Police who was killed in the attack, also paid his tributes at the Parliament House.
“His sacrifices were not wasted as he saved lives of leaders and honour of the Parliament,” he said.
Asked whether BJP is politicising the Parliament attack case, party leader V K Malhotra said his party was raising its pitch in the issue because politics was being played for those responsible for the attack.
“It is not correct if those responsible for the attack are not hanged. It would be an insult to those martyrs who laid down their life,” Malhotra said.
