Mysterious Haj Subsidy Hike In Tamilnadu
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has announced a hike in the subsidy for Haj Pilgrimage from Rs.20 lakh to Rs.30 lakh. The Haj subsidy costs the national exchequer crores of rupees. The Supreme Court in 2012 had directed the Centre to gradually reduce the amount of subsidies being given to Haj pilgrims so that within 10 years it is eliminated. Muslims too claim that the so-called Haj subsidy is of no use to the pilgrims and we never asked for it – says Zafarul Islam Khan, President of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat.
