Kendrapara(Orissa): While tension has become the order of the day in some districts of the State, the Muslims in Kendrapara town, in a rare gesture of communal harmony, started cleaning the drains and roads in the Badahat area of the town to create a clean atmosphere during the celebration of the weeklong festival of Lakshmi Puja that started on Tuesday.

It is to be noted that the sweepers of the municipality called on a strike in the eleventh hour of the festival. If the Muslims had not undertaken the noble work, the puja might have been spent amid heap of garbage and bad odour of drains.

About 50 Muslims, led by councillor of Ward No-16 of Kendrapara civic body Hibjur Rehman, along with some Hindu brethrens, on Monday cleaned the roads and drains in the Badahat area.

The unique thing in the town is that the Hindus in togetherness with the Muslims worship Goddess Lakshmi in a couple of puja pandals
