Modi surveys Uttarakhand, “salutes the courageous dedication of armed forces”

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who undertook a survey of parts of Uttarakhand affected by floods, saluted the dedication of the armed forces in rescuing stranded pilgrims. The plane that brought Modi to Dehradun took back seven elderly women to Gujarat.

“I salute the armed forces and all those who are courageously dedicating themselves to relief work across Uttarakhand,” said Modi via Twitter after his visit.

The Chief Minister visited Devprayag, Tehri Dam, Badrinath, Gaurikund, KedarGhati, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, Chamoli, Gopeshwar, Joshimath and Agastmuni. “Undertook aerial survey of parts of Uttarakhand. I went to Devprayag, Tehri Dam, Badrinath, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, Chamoli, Gopeshwar, Gaurikund, Kedar Ghati, Joshimath, Agastmuni. There is a need of food, medicines and rescuing those who are stranded there,” he said.

“I also visited a relief camp in Dehradun. Now, I will visit relief camp organized by the Government of Gujarat in Haridwar and meet people there,” Modi added.

Travelling across Uttarakhand and undertaking the survey, Modi said that there is a “need for food and medicine and to rescue those stranded in the floods.”

In order to facilitate rescue operations, the Gujarat government has undertaken several efforts, including the chartering of special flights to bring back those affected in the floods.

A high level five-member team from Gujarat is already coordinating the relief operations in the hill state. Narendra Modi had announced Rs. 2 crore from the CM relief fund for flood relief operations. He also wrote a letter to the Union Railway Minister seeking special trains to facilitate return of those affected by the floods to their respective hometowns.
