CHENNAI: The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has stated that while the Metro project will indeed be passing 25 metres from St Andrew’s Kirk, the foundations of the church will not be affected.
Speaking to Express, T V Somanathan, managing director, CMRL, said that to connect the Metro with Egmore station, it was necessary that the line passed under the church compound.
“We are awaiting a response from our French consultants but as of now, our consultants at the Delhi Metro have said that the church’s foundations will not be affected,†he said.
“You just need to look at other cities where Metros have been constructed without affecting heritage structures,†he added.
