‘Mathruchaya’ : An institution to celebrate motherhood

via HK Correspondent published on October 25, 2006

KALADY : The Mathruchaya Balabhavan at Chowara is celebrating its 15 years of selfless service to orphans and destitutes. On the day of Deepawali, a large number of families met here to make it a special day for the inmates of this oasis of love. This institution stands next to the birth place of Sree Shankara in the historical Panchayat of Srimoolanagaram.

The former Sarsanghchalak of the RSS, Shri Devarasji’s vision of not a single orphan child should not go without education due to poverty and loneliness” came true with the establishment of Mathruchaya, which was started in the year 1989.

It was the former Ernakulam district collector Shri K.R.Rajan who lit the lamp and inaugurated Mathruchaya in the presence of RSS office-bearers Adv. T.V. Ananthan and Shri. P.E.B. Menon.

Mathruchaya which made its first step under the guidance of sreemad Garudadwajananda swami has made great strides when looking back now.

Around 50 children who are students of 1st grade to college and ITI level are well looked after here. The curriculum here is based on the ancient Gurukulam system, where, along with regular classes, farming, agriculture, screen-printing, soap manufacture, yoga, physical training, bhajans are the daily activities. Children from tribal and backward areas are inmates of Mathruchaya.

Swami Vivekananda was of the view that “the hands which serve food are more benevolent than those hands which are pressed together for prayer”. A number of blind boys are also staying at Mathruchaya and are able to continue their studies at Chovvara high  school.

H.H Sri Jayendrasaraswathi Swami of Kanchi Kamakodi, Shri Poornamritanandapuri of Amrithanandamayi Mutt, RSS Sanghchalak Shri K.S. Sudarshan, senior BJP leader Shri O.Rajagopal etc are some of the regular visitors of Mathruchaya to give their valuable guidance.

‘Annadanam’ on the occasions like Marriage, Birthdays, Grihapravesh, Shraadham etc can be done at this institution. Anyone can be a participant of this godly venture by donating a small sum of money.

Donations can be sent to The director, Mathruchaya bala bhavan, Chovvara P.O., Aluva – 683 571. Phone no. 0484-2600203.
