Major General (Retd.) B.C. Khanduri next Chief Minister of Uttarakhand

NEW DELHI : B.C. Khanduri, a former Major General of the Indian Army, seemed most likely the chief minister candidate of BJP in Uttarakhand although the party has not officially declared its preference.


 


General Khanduri was the minister of state with independent charge of the road transport and highways ministry from 2000 to 2004 in the government headed by Shri. Atal Bihari Vajpayee .


 


Born in 1934 in Dehradun in Uttarakhand he studied at Allahabad University, College of Military Engineering, Pune, Institute of Engineers, New Delhi and Institute of Defence Management, Secunderabad .


 


He served in Corps of Engineers, Indian Army from 1954 to 1990. In 1982 he was conferred Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) by the President of India for distinguished services in the Indian Army .


 


After retirement he joined with BJP and was elected to Lok Sabha from Garhwal in Uttarakhand in 1991 and in subsequent elections.


 


As a minister he implemented BJP’s prestigious National Highways Development project with efficiency and speed.
