Mahatma Gandhi’s statue beheaded
PITHORGARH: A statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Pithorgarh district was desecrated
by vandals who cut off its head, police said on Friday.
The head of the statue at Gandhi Chowk was chopped off with a sharp-edged
instrument, sparking protests by the people. Police have launched a hunt for
those responsible, officials said.
Meanwhile, the BJP has accused the district administration of negligence and
burnt an effigy of the government to protest the incident.
Uttaranchal Congress spokesman Surendra Kumar described the incident as
unfortunate and demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible.
