Maha Sankirtan Yatra

via HK published on August 27, 2009

YEAR 2010 is the 500th year of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s Sanyas. There are millions of devotees of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu who want to celebrate this occasion in the form of MAHA SANKIRTAN YATRA from his sanyas place Katwa (Burdwan, W.Bengal) on 19th January, 2010 to 14th February, 2010 to Jagannath Puri following the path followed by Sri Krishna Chaitanya 500 years ago with His SANKIRTAN MONDALIS.

BHAGWAN SRI KRISHNA CHAITANYA, popularly known as SRI CHAITANYA MAHAPRABHU in His short sojourn of life, established Himself as a visionary, a true religious teacher, and ardent devotee, a Savior of mankind and icon of humanity, a Social Reformer, Revolutionary par excellence, a man with finer and realistic political ideals and above all true leader of masses. His brave heart first taught the demoralized people of His time how to raise voice against oppression and exploitation which the ruthless and bigot alien rulers used to do at that time to their Hindu subjects. HE was the first in this land who organized Civil Disobedience Movement to end tyranny of the alien rulers. Thousands of men in fearless heart followed Him to gherao Chand Kaji, local oppressive ruler, with simple weapons of Harinam Samkirtan on their lips and lighted Masals in their hands. Kaji was unnerved in this movement and subdued to their demands to put an end to his tyranny and conversion. These were the days of tyranny of the then foreign rulers. To overcome their oppression Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu used this simple weapon of Harinam Sankirtan for not only to enlightening the entire Hindu Society but united them to fight the aggression and protect their religion & Culture. He put an end to all conversions & injustice during that period. His acceptance of Sanyas was for the people – for erasing their miseries, cowardice and lack of moral vitality to create a confluence of reciprocal love, affinity and those human values which will banish deep rooted human vices like castism, racism, and bigotry.

He inspired many great masters like Sri Ramkrishna, Sri Swami Vivekanand, Sri Vijay Krishna Goswami, Sri Sitaramdas Omkarnath, Srila Bhakti Sidhanta Saraswati Prabhupada etc. who took this ennobling message to different parts of the country as well as abroad. Srila Bhaktivedant Prabhupada is the glaring example of one of the great masters who took the message to the western world. Today International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) is a powerful movement around the globe.

Seeing His akinness with Lord Jagannath Deva HE was conferred the title MAHAPRABHU by the king of Orissa Maharaja Prataparudra Deva, in 16th century, during Rath Yatra at Puri.

This SANKIRTAN YATRA will enthuse spirit in Hindus to stand unitedly against the onslaught of alien faith today. We want to re-establish Mahanam Sankirtan Mandalies as preached by Sri Mahaprabhu, to train the persons joining these Mandalies in playing Khol, Mridang, Khartal etc., publishing the books, booklets and literatures detailing the life and teachings of Mahaprabhu with emphasis on its usefulness in the present context etc.
