New Delhi:Indian security and nuclear installations are under “very serious threat” from the Lashkar-e-Toiba which may be planning a “major assault”, National Security Adviser M.K. Narayanan said today.

Talking to a TV channel on Friday, Narayanan said government had information of a very serious threat to one of the nuclear installations in the country.

Though he did not name any specific nuclear installation, government agencies are reported to have strengthened the security for Kaiga nuclear power plan in Karnataka.

Narayanan, according to agencies, said LeT, planning a major assault on India, was a far greater threat than Al Qaida due to its greater reach.

“LeT is an integral part of Al Qaida but sometimes it becomes even bigger because of its contacts. We have not come across their involvement in US but in Europe and Asia, they are very active,” agencies quoted him telling the channel.

“I think I may be ex-communicated after this. I may not be given information but this is enough for us for more than providing proof to anyone,” he said. “I would like to be able to prevent this and get the module that is responsible.”
