JAMMU : Islamic militants shot dead four Hindus in Kashmir who were part of a group of nine abducted by the guerrillas earlier on Sunday, Police said.

A group of nine people had gone to graze their cattle when militants kidnapped them. So far four bodies were recovered with bullet marks.  The kidnapped took place near Basantagarh in Udhampur district 65 kms. away from Jammu.

The Police had been sent to the mountainous area to search for the missing Hindus.

More than 45,000 Hindus have been killed so far in Jammu and Kashmir in a separatist revolt which broke out in 1989.

Separatist guerrillas have increased attacks in recent weeks with the onset of summer when the snow melts in the region’s mountain passes, allowing easier movement for the rebels.
