Four arrested for trying to whip up communal frenzy

KASARGOD: Police arrested four activists of the Islamic Students Association, ISA, while trying to stick wall posters in the early hours of Wednesday at Edavamgal near Bekal.

Local people alerted the police after the four-member gang destroyed the flex board of the Wayanadan Kulayan Theyyam erected near the Edavangal Mahavishnu temple around 3 am.

A police party led by Bekal station sub-inspector rushed to the spot and arrested the youths including a final-year B Tech student of the LBS Engineering College in Powwal.

Police said they came on two motor bikes from Chemnad in the early hours to stick the wall posters of the ISA. The motor bikes bearing Nos. KL14- G 7026 and KL14- C7856 have been seized by the police.

The arrested youths are Mohammed Aasif, 19, son of Ibrahim of Arafath Manzil in Chemnad and a student of the LBS Engineering College, Abdul Basiph, 24, son of Ahammed at Kowwal in Chemnad, Muneeb Rahman P M, 19, son of Mohammed, Kalamthotty House, Chemnad and Althaf B K, 19, son of Kunhali, Kolamthotty House in Chemnad.

They are the activists of the newly-floated Islamic Student Association, which seemed to be a front organisation of the banned Student Islamic Movement of India, SIMI, said the police.

The police is investigating whether the ISA has connection with any extremist organisations.

The youths have been charged under Section 427 of the IPC for trying to whip up communal frenzy. The arrested youths have been remanded in judicial custody.
