THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The revelations by some of the key witnesses against Abdul Nasar Madhani in the case against 22 people for harbouring and helping Lashkar terrorists will be a major headache for the CPM which is set to parade Madhani’s PDP as an illegitimate LDF partner in the coming Lok Sabha polls.

A bundle of evidence collected by the special investigation team (a copy of which is in possession of Express) that is probing the terrorist links of Keralites has clear hints of the intimacy of terrorist youngsters with Madhani and family.

One of the key witnesses in the case, Mani alias Yousuf, has detailed his long association with Madhani. He attended terror camps in Kannur and Hyderabad along with Fayaz, Fayiz, Abdul Rahim and Mohammed Yazin who were killed in an encounter in Kashmir while trying to cross the Pakistan border.

Mani confessed before DySP V K Akbar that Madhani had converted him to Islam. “I belonged to a Hindu family in Thoothukkudi.

I was in Coimbatore jail in connection with a robbery case when Madhani was arrested and housed there as an accused in the Coimbatore blast case. Madhani performed Kaleema and converted me to Islam,” says Mani.

When he was released, Mani (Yousuf) was taken to Madhani’s house in Kochi by his wife Sufiya.

Mani said he was given a job at Sufiya’s pardah shop in Kochi.

Another shocking revelation by Mani is that Fazila, daughter of Salam in Hyderabad, lived with Sufiya and went to Surful Islamic school. “Salam works in Hyderabad and is also known as Sainuddin and Satar, says Mani.

The police later identified him as Sainuddin, a close associate of Indian Mujahiddin co-founder Riyaz Bhatkal now under arrest.

Yousuf also gave a detailed account of the classes conducted in the terror camps organised at Neerchal in Kannur. He admits that the training was powerful enough to convert a youngster of below average intelligence to a hardcore terrorist.

During the training camp, Yousuf and wife paid a visit to Madhani’s house. “Sufiyathaa invited us for Eid and we went and stayed there for a day,” said Yousuf. But his wife Haseena contradicted this statement saying the couple had stayed for five or six days there. “For Yousuf, Madhani and Sufiya were like father and mother,” she said.
