HMK created History in Thirunellveli – 185 Christian Families Re-Embraced Hinduism

Thirunellveli : Marking History here, Alleging Discrimination in Christianity  Nearly 1000 Christians of  185 Dalit Christian families came back to their parent religion Hinduism in presence of several Hindu spiritual and organisation leaders at a grand “Ghar Wapasi” function held in Tirunelveli on Monday, the 117th birth anniversary of Dr B.R.Ambedkar.The Dalit Christians, a mix of Protestants and Roman Catholics from
villages around Tirunelveli were originally Hindus who had converted to
Christianity five generations back.

While the rituals started with Ganapathy homam at the break of dawn, the organisers, the Hindu Makkal Katchi headed by Mr Arjun Sampath, garlanded the statue of Dr Ambedkar before the day-long ‘return-to-parent religion’ ceremony started off. HMK activists performed padha poojas (washing their feet) of all those who re-embraced Hinduism.

Sengol adheenam of the age-old Sengol mutt in Tirunelveli, Swami Sadasivananda, state organiser of the Tamil Nadu Hindu Monks Council, state secretary Swami Raghavananda, Sadhu Vidhyendra of Ramakrishna Tapovanam among others graced the occasion, endorsed their reconversion and gave reconverts Hindu names according to their choice. Purification ceremony was performed by sprinkling ‘ganga theertha’ and ‘sethu theertha.’ The organisers adopted a resolution urging the government to bear the expenses for notifying their names in the gazette.After the ceremony, the converts offered prayers at the famous
Swamy Nellaiappar – Gandhimathy Ambal Temple in Tirunelveli Town.

 
It
may be noted that the ceremony was originally planned to be held at the
Nellaiappar Temple but the organisers had to change the venue after the
state government refused them the permission.

HMK also plans to re-convert 20,000 Christians in Villupuram district. “We’ll take it up in August” , told Hindu Makkal Katchi leader Arjun Sambath
