Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 21 :Expressing strong protest over the recurring attacks on Sabarimala Pilgrims from Tamilnadu on the Kerala -Tamilnadu border, Hindu Auikya vedi today called for initiating effective measures to prevent further attacks and stringent action against the guilty.

Aikyavedi State General secretary Kummanam Rajasekharan, State secretary Brahmachari Bhargava Ram,state treasurer Aravindakshan Nair South zone organizing secretary Prabhakaran told a news conference that if the government failed to prevent the attacks , Hindu organizations would mobilize people to provide security to the
pilgrims. They said devotees from outside the state would be accorded
reception at the borders and in other parts of the state.

They said in the last week alone 16 attacks were unleashed on the pilgrims from across the borders.20 vehicles were attacked and 10 devotees were injured in the incidents. On Monday night alone 7 vehicles were attacked.

They said the attacks must have been pre-planned and orchestrated by vested interests.

“The modus operandi behind the attacks has underlined this fact”,Kummanam said.

He said the motive behind the attack was to create fear in the pilgrims from across the borders and sabotage the pilgrimage itself. He said efforts were being made to communalise the Mullapperiyar issue and create tension and riot.

Kummanam pointed out that while the vehicles carrying vegetable and other goods from Tamilnadu are being spared and only pilgrims ‘ vehicles are targeted. “ If Mullapperiyar issue is the real reason behind the attack why do they target the vehicles from Andhra Pradesh and other states?”.

Going critical on the Government’s lack of concern for the devotees, He asked why Ministers P.J.Jospeh and K.M.Mani did not express any concern for Ayyappa devotess while they continued to whip up passion on the Mullapperiyar issue. “ P.J.Joseph is ready to fast unto death on the Mullapperiyar issue . Will he be ready to observe
a fast at least for a day expressing solidarity with the pilgrims ?”.

Kummanam said the chief ministers of Tamilnadu and Kerala should sit together to find an amicable solution to the issue and isolate those who orchestrate violence and trigger communal passion. Aikya vedi also has started a helpline to – 9497545511- to extend help to the pilgrims who are in trouble during the journey through Kerala. He said
Guruswamis and other Ayyappa devotees would organize a dharna in front
of the Secretariat on Thursday.
