Hang Afzal-Online protests gains momentum

To,

The President of India,

New Delhi.

Sub.: Terrorism and the Law

Dear Sir,

There is a sustained campaign by many prominent people to plead that a terrorist convicted and sentenced by the Supreme Court of India must not be hanged. A very complex and orchestrated campaign has been launched by many different agencies to stop the execution of Mohammed Afzal Guru, who has been convicted of the charge of being responsible for the terrorist attack on the Parliament of India, in which 10 guards including a lady lost their lives. They died in the cause of defending democracy.

However, the Chief Minister of Kashmir says that making the terrorist pay for his crime, will make it difficult to maintain peace in Kashmir. Geelani, who was released by the same judiciary, says that the process of law is flawed. Was it flawed when releasing him, or only when it sentences Guru? Mehbooba Syed is among those who have threatened that if the Indian State executes this terrorist, there will be grave reprisals in Kashmir. Many of us remember that the first instance where the Country negotiated and gave in to the demand of terrorists was for Mehbooba’s sister. If we keep the terrorists in prison, though declared guilty by the Courts, we invite more Kandhars.

By the absurd logic being advanced, we will soon be blessed with the return of Dawood Ibrahim, Chhota Rajan and Tiger Memon, and then be threatened that if the death penalty is awarded to them, the Nation will have to suffer violent riots. It is disturbing that there is a silence against this regressive move,- by most people,- except the Hindutva votaries. People all over the world, need to voice their opposition to those who support terrorists convicted by the Supreme Court.

We demand that the President of India, reject all pleas for weakening the law in the case of terrorists, and the Indian State declare that it will not negotiate with terrorists.
