Ahmedabad, Jan 12: Gujarat State Petroleum Corp has struck natural gas in the KG basin off the Andhra Pradesh coast, state chief minister Narendra Modi said here today.

The gas find in a well in the Deendayal Upadhyay block is near the place where the company had found a massive discovery of gas four years back, Modi said at the third Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit 2007.

State energy minister Saurabh Patel later said the gas was found at a different depth in the same block and the find was “significant”.

Modi told the gathering attended by various prominent businessmen from India and abroad that Gujarat would help the country tide over the energy crisis in an effective manner.

Gujarat was emerging as energy surplus state, he said, adding the state has also set up LNG terminals and GSPC was bidding for stakes in oil fields in Australia, Yemen and Egypt.
