Gorakhpur violence: Court quashes detention of BJP MP
Gorakhpur (UP), Feb 06: A district court on Tuesday quashed the detention of BJP MP Yogi Adityanath and 69 others in the wake of incidents of violence here, terming it as illegal.
District Judge Amar Sinha said the detention by additional city magistrate was illegal and was liable to be quashed.
The ruling came on a revision petition filed by Devesh Vaishya, one of those detained.
Meanwhile, another case registered against the BJP MP under various sections of IPC will come up for hearing tomorrow.
The Additional City Magistrate had on January 28 ordered detention of 70 people, including Adityanath, Hindu Mahasabha MLA Radha Mohan Das Agrawal and others while they were on way to the scene of communal strife during Moharram procession here, sparking protests from the saffron party.
