‘Friends of the BJP’ to contribute in LS poll campaign

Buoyed
by the success of ‘Advani for PM’ campaign, BJP strategists now plan to
throw the net wider to leave an imprint on ‘apolitical’ minds. Advani’s
campaign managers have identified at least 50 major important centres
of the country where they would be holding a meeting of several
thousands ‘Friends of the BJP’.

Most of these ‘Friends’ have got
themselves registered on LK Advani’s website (www.lkadvani.in) as
volunteers to contribute in some way to the BJP campaign for the 2009
Lok Sabha election. “It is good that you are getting direct inputs from
professionals, students and many other segments of the society that is
not much into politics. This gives you a real feel of the issues and
how to go with them,” BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley said.

One
fine day, the man who manages Advani’s website handed to Jaitley a
bunch of letters that had been posted on Advani’s website about how to
revive the party in UP. “These were the suggestions that came directly
from people at the grassroots. It is a very cost effective way to get
inputs,” Jaitley said. He, however, disagreed that such a programme
would replace the existing method of election campaigning like rallies
and public meeting; more so when a large number of people lived in the
rural or semi urban area.

Advani’s campaign strategists had
recently launched Advani@campus programme where party leaders would
visit educational institutions to educate first time voters about
Advani’s vision for an ’empowered nation’.
