Thiruvananthapuram: Those who stand as muted spectators of the insults being heaped on Bharatamba will reap the same fate of Bheeshma, who lay on the bed of arrows, said Swami Chidananda Puri, head seer of Kulathoor Advaithashrama, Kozhikode. He was addressing the audience during the inaugural ceremony of Navodhana Sammelanam, a part of Hindu Mahasammelanam, organized by Ananthapuri Hindu Dharma Parishad in the capital city. The seer stated that the nation would have to pay a heavy price if we remained muted spectators even as the motherland was being disrobed in humiliation.

Pointing out how the cultural congregation organized by Art of Living Foundation was subject to unwanted calumny, Swamiji said that this is not an isolated instance. “Mata Amritanandamayi and Baba Ramdev were humiliated. In this connection we can gauge two kinds of reactions. A spate of violence was unleashed when an article appeared in a print media, reflecting certain episodes in the life of Prophet Mohammed. The newspaper came out with an apology even before protests gathered momentum. There were communal riots in Europe as part of a response to the cartoon on Prophet Mohammed. On the other side, the man who denigrated Hindu deities was conferred Ravi Varma Award, under the name of freedom of expression. Didn’t CPM leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan depict the reverend head seer of Pejawar, Visweswara Theertha Swami as a terrorist?” said the seer.

Pointing out Bheeshma chose the bed of arrows during Kurukshetra war, following extreme remorse after having remained a mute spectator when Panchali was being disrobed by Dushasana, without having reacted against him, Swamiji said that “Bharatamba is a nation that is always looked up in reverence by world nations. But the very same nation is being dishonoured by many Dushasanans, who are none other than natives of the land. And if we are to maintain silence against the same, we will ultimately have to pay a heavy price, said Swami Chidananda Puri highlighting the need to react to such situations.
