Corporate Infiltration to Media; Lecture by Shri J Gopikrishnan

Corporate control over media is a cause of concern. Freedom of Press, which once used to be a strong force to combat undemocratic and monopolistic forces, has been largely affected due to corporate takeover of media houses. The promoters and controllers of media groups use them for their business interests.

 The growing consolidation of media organisations is compromising media ethics. By distorting facts and blowing up trivial incidents out of proportion many times Media seem to create public opinion to safeguard their business interests”. Recently the practice of “paid news” has become a regular practice to tarnish the opponents. Instead of journalists acting as corrective force to strengthen the social fabrics, to uphold the democratic principles and to inculcate ethical values, they are playing in the hands of greedy business corporate and corrupt politicians.

 It is in this background that Vichara Vedi has decided to have the forth coming lecture on Corporate infiltration into Media . Sri. J. Gopikrishnan, who exposed the 2G scam will speak on this topic. The 2G Spectrum Scam, which shook India during the past few years, cost the exchequer Rs 176,000 crore. Following this revelation, one minister has lost his job, the credibility of the then Government was lost and the integrity of many journalists was questioned.

The renowned speaker, Shri J Gopikrishnan, is an investigative journalist and has received Ramnath Goenka Journalist of the Year Award in print in 2012.Currently Shri Gopikrishnan works for The Pioneer newspaper. We cordially invite you to this function.
