Dec. 30: The 10-member House committee of the Karnataka Legislature that was constituted to probe into the alleged irregularities at the Iskcon’s Akshaya Patra Foundation with regard to the implementation of the mid-day meal scheme in the state has given a clean chit to Iskcon. However, Congress members of the committee stated that they have not signed the final report and alleged that the BJP members succumbed to pressure from Iskcon.
According to sources, in its report, the committee had cleared all the allegations that were levelled against Iskcon, Bengaluru, including the allegation by Congress leader and MLA D.K. Shivakumar, who claimed that Iskcon was raising funds without permission. He even accused the Iskcon of land grabbing. The committee also acknowledged and appreciated Iskcon’s service to society through the Akshaya Patra project. Chairman of the committee and Mangalore MLA Yogish Bhat, confirmed that the final report has been submitted to the Speaker but he did not elaborate on the same.
“Our task was to probe into the allegations and file a report. We finished that job and submitted the final report,†said Mr Bhat.
However, the Congress members allege that the report was submitted without their consent. Congress leader and Kanakapura MLA D.K. Shivakumar, said, “As per my knowledge, the final report is ready but the committee is yet to get the same signed by all the members. It looks like the BJP has succumbed to the pressure from Iskcon,†said Mr Shivakumar.
