New Delhi, May 28: Agitated over the absence of any government representative at a function in Parliament to mark the birth anniversary of freedom fighter and Sangh Parivar icon Veer Savarkar, the opposition BJP today charged the ruling UPA with dividing national leaders on party lines.

Leader of Opposition L K Advani took strong exception to the absence of any leader from the ruling coalition or its allies at the function in the Central Hall of Parliament House this morning.

Advani, who paid floral tributes to the portrait of Savarkar, also conveyed to Lok Sabha Secretary General P D T Achary his displeasure over the Secretariat not playing a tape containing quotes of the freedom fighter or releasing his life sketch “as was the practise on such occasions”, BJP Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha V K Malhotra told reporters.

Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee and Deputy Speaker C S Atwal were also not present at the brief function as they were reportedly out of station, Malhotra said.
