Coimbatore Blast-Trial finished, Awaiting Judgement

COIMBATORE: Trials of 1998 serial Coimbatore bomb blast case which claimed the lives of 58 people and left more than 200 injured is in it’s final stages now.


 


Special court reserved the judgement   after hearing the submissions of the prosecution and the defence.


 


In the case, a chargesheet running into 17,000 pages were filed and as many as 1,300 witnesses were cross-examined. The trial first began on March 7, 2002.

The total number of accused in the case was 181, of which eight died in an encounter; five went absconding; one turned approver and one accused died during trial.At present there are 166 accused. There are five accused from Kerala, including the Terrorist leader Abdul Nasser Madhani.
