NEW DELHI : In a significant development, the Centre has for the first time involved the Rashtriya Swamsewak Sangh, in tackling what is a purely governance issue.

In a letter written by a senior Archealogical Survey of India official to RSS Sarsanghachalak K S Sudarshanji, requested his help to put a stop to illegal mining activity in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh.

The sources from RSS confirmed the receipt of this letter.

The ASI official says in the letter,

“I am writing you this letter because in the past there was illegal mining in the area mentioned above. When our department came to know about it we brought it to the notice of the then state tourism minister, Yashodhra Raje Scindia who intervened immediately and put a complete stop to these activities”.

“However off late we have come to know that the illegal mining has started yet again. We can say that the damage caused by this mining is equivalent to the destruction caused by Mohammed Ghaznavi and Aurangzeb.”

The Morena district administration is now in the process of getting cancelled two mining leases by invoking Section 4 of the Mining Act that allows the Government to intervene to protect environment or when the activity threatens ancient and heritage sites.
