Goa: AGTSC calls for Quepem bandh

With regard to the increasing desecrating of idols in the temples and
the government’s failure to nab the culprit, AGTSC has called for a
Quepem bandh on Tuesday. The decision was taken on Sunday after a
meeting with Hindu Janjagruti Samiti..

AFTER CHIEF minister Digamber Kamat Margao’s constituency, also known
as commercial city, witnessed bandh (strike) on Saturday (June 28) over
eve teasing incident, which sparked the city, now All Goa Temple
Safeguard Committee (AGTSC) have given a call for Quepem bandh on
Tuesday (July 1).

This committee was formed with
a purpose to safeguard the temples in the state, which is becoming
murkier with each passing day, as desecrating of the idols by
vandalising the same incidents have increased.
Recently,
the incident of desecrating idols of Shri Someshwar Temple at
Shirvay-Quepem, by vandalising the same had happened. People had
demanded to nab the culprits behind it, but so far police could not nab
any one in the connection. To draw the government’s 

attention over their failure, the committee has called for a bandh.

AGTSC
on Sunday (June 29) convened the meeting in association with Hindu
Janjagruti Samiti, and took the decision unanimously to give a call for
Quepem bandh on July 1.
Former
MLA Prakash Velip, Prof Subhash Velingkar of Vishwa Hindu Parishad,
Rajendra Velingkar of Dharmjagran Samiti, North Goa, Bajrang Dal, chief
Vinayak Chari, convener of Goa, Hindu Janjagruti Samiti Jayesh Thali,
presidents of various temples of Goa and members of around 80 Hindu
organisations were present at the meeting held in Vishwa Hindu Parishad
(VHP) hall at Ponda.
