According to him, a total of 59.55 lakh sets have been procured so far. When the scheme was launched in September 15, 2006, the government had bought for distribution 30,000 television sets, at a cost of Rs.9 crore.

In the second phase, the government ordered the purchase of 25 lakh television sets on February 15, 2007, at a cost of Rs.685 crore. All these television sets have been distributed.

In the third phase, the government bought 34.25 lakh television sets at accost of Rs.750 crore. Of this, 18 lakh sets has already been given. Distribution of the remaining sets was being taken up from Friday.

When people have been sucked off with the price rise of rice, dhal, cooking oil etc., these cinemawalas are conducting tamasha shows without any feelings for the people.

Stalin his son also distributes TVs


: Stalin, his son and also Local Administration Minister claimed on Saturday (26-07-2008) that 52,892 colour television sets would be given to beneficiaries in the city during the third phase of the free TV distribution scheme, while distributing TV sets in Thousand Lights and T. Nagar constituencies on Saturday. About 3,420 beneficiaries in Thousand Lights constituency and 4,526 beneficiaries in T. Nagar constituency would receive the sets[3]. The Minister said about 1.70 lakh TVs had been distributed in the city during the first two phases.
