BMS to launch Nation Wide Agitation to Abolish Contract and Labour system

Sh.Girish Awasthiji- President-BMS.jpgCUTTACK: 7th April, 2008.  The 15th triennial National Conference of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh concluded today. Delegates from all States, Union Territories, and Industrial National federations/Confederations attended the conference. The Conference was Inaugurated by Dr.Mohan Bhagvat, the Sarkarwavah (General Secretary) of RSS on 5th April, 08.  Dr.Mohan Bhagvat said that, by staunch Nationalism the Trade Union organizations can do good to the nation, Industry and the Workers.  Sh.K.Lakshma Reddy General Secretary-BMS.jpgcharged that due to the wrong economic and anti Labour policies of the UPA Government the price of the essential commodities reached the  peak and , unemployment problems are rapidly increasing. The Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme of this Government has also derailed from its original aim. He demanded that Government should immediately take necessary steps to arrest the price rise and  settle the issues. 

On the 2nd day of the Conference a convention was organized on contract labour. Prominent Economist, Legal luminaries of the country, activists of Social organizations and           Shri.K.Lakshma Reddy General Secretary
representatives  of other Central Trade Unions placed there views on the problem of contract labour system.  Every body offered to fight jointly on the issue of Contract labour and supported the issue raised by BMS.  At the end, a resolution was passed demanding abolition of the contract labour system.  Apart from the contract labour system the resolutions were passed on (1)India’s Economic sovereignty, (2)Present labour situation, (3) price rise (4) Child Labour (5) Problems of Working Women and (6) Against Brutal Murders of BMS workers in Kerlala by CPM activists in the conference. The conference also unanimously approved the General Secretary report presented by Sh.Uday Rao Patwardhan. 

In the last day of the conference on 7th April, 2008 it was decided that BMS will launch a Nation vide agitation to abolish the Contract labour system in the country from district to state level and finally a March to Parliament will be organized during the winter session of parliament in the month of November 2008 in which lakhs of workers will participate from all over the country. 

The conference also elected the new office bearers for the next three years. Sh. Girish Awasthi has been once again elected National President,   Sh.K.Lakshma Reddy elected as General Secretary of BMS.
