Jaipur, May 03

The Opposition Leader in the Lok Sabha and senior BJP leader L K Advani today said that if a trial of strength took place between the BJP and the UPA today, the BJP would be back in power.

Speaking to reporters in Jaipur Mr Advani ruled out any “major turbulence” in the party and said “dissent and turbulence of this kind has been there. This is a party where dissent is not a crime. But we have managed to ensure that discipline is not compromised.”

Lashing out at the Congress President Sonia Gandhi, the former Deputy Prime Minister said “If any foreigner gains high posts in the country, scams like the Quattrocchi scandal will be the
result.” he said that apart from globalisation on the economic front, there had also been globalisation of corruption.

Meanwhile, calling upon the Muslim community to give up their claim to the Ram Janmabhoomi site voluntarily, Mr Advani told them “I would like my Muslim brothers and sisters to ask themselves if the Congress really deserves their support after its irrefutable record of betrayal and its contribution in keeping a majority of Muslims poor and backward even after 60 years of independence. “I appeal to the Muslim community to introspect if its negative outlook towards the BJP has helped either itself or the nation at large.”

Telling the Muslims that it was time to start a new trust-based relationship between the BJP and Muslims to promote communal harmony, he said the cause of India’s security and development
will be greatly benefited by strengthening the common national identity. “Religious rights and identities of various communities that constitute the great Indian family must no doubt be protected. But these identities should have no place in politics. We are not against minorities, but against minorityism.

We will fight it tooth and nail,” Advani added. Advani, who was near Dausa in Rajasthan, later broke his trip and drove to Jaipur from where he left for Mumbai on hearing the demise of Pramod Mahajan accompanied by Chief Minister Vasundhararaje Scindia
