BJP to stage protests against fuel hike; Rajnath to lead

NEW DELHI: Terming the hike in fuel prices as an “anti-people act”, the Opposition BJP announced protests, including road blockade, across the country on Wednesday as part of its agitational programme against the UPA Government’s decision.
“The hike in fuel prices shows that the Government has lost its grip on the economy. They passed the Budget without even discussing the C Rangarajan Committee report on petroleum pricing. The hike will have a cascading effect on the prices of all essential commodities,” party President Rajnath Singh told over phone from Bhubaneshwar.

He also expressed apprehensions that increase in prices of LPG and Kerosene would follow suit.

Singh asked all state units of the party to organise ‘Chakka Band’ and ‘Rasta Roko’ (road blockade) all over the country on Wednesday June seven between 1100 hours and 1300 hours to protest the hike in prices of petrol and diesel.

The BJP chief himself would lead the protests in the capital on Wednesday.

Attacking the Left parties for their “inability” to stop the Government from hiking the prices, Singh charged them with shedding “crocodile tears” for the common man.

“They are playing with the interests of the common man. They have tasted power and are not willing to sacrifice it any more,” he said.
