BJP flays Govt on Da Vinci Code
NewDelhi Even as suspense continued over the release of the controversial film “The Da Vinci Code”, BJP today charged the UPA Government with practising “double standards” in the way it dealt with minority sentiments vis-a-vis Hindu religious feelings. “The Government should have the same yardstick to measure religious sentiments. Why are the so-called progressives who come to the defence of freedom of expression when Hindu sentiments are insulted, silent now? Does the Government consult the Shankaracharya when Hindu sentiments are involved?”, BJP Parliamentary Party spokesman V K Malhotra told reporters here. Alleging that the Government had given financial assistance to a play portraying Ram and Sita as brother and sister staged by pro-Left cultural outfit ‘SAHMAT’, “there should be uniformity of approach. There should not be double standards”. |
